i hope you’re all having a very wonderful new year. january is almost over but feels like it just arrived - we’ve been having temperatures in the single digits and scarves and winds, but each day this month has still felt like a single day in a single year: new, bright.
i know most have posted their new year’s resolutions already, but seeing as how it’s not quite february yet, i thought i’d still have a go at illustrating mine. this year i’d like to keep perspective: on what’s under my control and what isn’t (because the difference is important); on how the things that feel oh-so-big are really little, smaller than a prick or pebble; how the tiny things—the oft-overlooked—are the big things, the cosmos, the reasons to wake and smile.
the world has me marveling, often, but i’d like to be in awe more. there are stars under our skin and in our eyes and i want to remember that. there are trees so massive i can live inside them and vines that wrap around for days and everything ever to explore. i drew this mandala as a daily reminder to keep a good perspective on myself & the world this year. the words are by jeff mangum, who always says everything beautifully and at the right time.
happy new year, everyone! wishing you love + luck.
